De’Longhi Dedica EC685 vs Dedica Arte EC885: Which milk routine fits?
There is a difference between wanting a cappuccino before work and wanting to practice a leaf in the foam. It is a useful distinction to make before choosing between these two slim espresso machines.
The De’Longhi Dedica EC685.M and Dedica Arte EC885.M share a narrow metal silhouette and a manual coffee-making routine. The clearest reason to choose between them sits on the right-hand side: The EC685 has an adjustable frother; the Arte has a My LatteArt steam wand.
Our choice would start with the milk drinks you actually make—and how much of the preparation you want to learn.

The short answer starts with your usual order
Choose the Dedica EC685.M if you want a manual espresso machine with a frother that lets you switch between hot milk and cappuccino foam. Choose the Dedica Arte EC885.M if learning to texture milk for pouring is part of the appeal.
If you mostly drink espresso, the Arte’s milk wand may give you little reason to spend more. Compare the current offers and included accessories before letting the newer-sounding name decide.
Dedica EC685.M: A collar with a clear job
The EC685’s Adjustable Cappuccino System has a broad metal frothing sleeve and a black selector marked HOT MILK and CAPPUCCINO. The two positions give you a straightforward choice between heating milk and adding the foam associated with a cappuccino.
That makes it an appealing starting point if your goal is a familiar milk coffee and you would rather learn one repeatable routine than make pouring patterns a hobby.
It is still manual. You prepare the coffee, hold the milk pitcher and operate the steam control. An adjustable frother does not turn this into a one-touch cappuccino machine.

Dedica Arte EC885.M: More reason to practice the milk
The Arte replaces that broad frothing sleeve with the slender My LatteArt wand. De’Longhi designed it for texturing milk into the fine microfoam used in latte art.
The appeal is the opportunity to work on texture and pouring. Getting there takes attention to the milk and the position of the wand; a different attachment cannot supply the practice.
We would lean toward the Arte if milk coffee is your regular order and improving that part of the routine sounds enjoyable. If you simply want hot, foamy milk, consider whether you would use the distinction.

A slim machine still needs a working coffee corner
The narrow body is attractive when the kitchen counter already has a kettle, a toaster and an ongoing argument with the fruit bowl. Both machines sit in the roughly 15 cm-wide class.
Leave room around the machine for the portafilter handle, a milk pitcher and access to the water tank. If you buy whole beans, allow space and budget for a separate grinder. The machine’s width is only one part of the setup.
Also check your favorite mug against the drip-tray arrangement. A removable tray helps with taller cups, but the advertised body size does not tell you whether your particular mug fits comfortably.
The daily routine matters more than the model number
With either machine, the routine includes filling, dosing, tamping, brewing and cleaning. Milk drinks add a separate steaming stage and another part to clean. Neither model brews espresso and steams milk at the same time.
That involvement can be the pleasure of a manual machine. It can also be the reason it stays switched off on a hurried morning.
If several people want milk drinks in quick succession, think through the repeated preparation and cleanup. If your aim is coffee with very little attention, compare a more automated type of machine before committing to either Dedica.

How we would choose
For someone buying mainly for espresso with an occasional cappuccino, we would put the EC685.M on the shortlist first. The important question is whether the Arte’s milk wand would get enough use to justify any price difference.
For someone who already wants to practice milk texture and pouring, the EC885.M has the clearer purpose. The useful upgrade is a tool you intend to learn.
Check the exact metal model code, included baskets, tamper and any pitcher before ordering. Compare the seller’s plug, voltage, warranty and return terms too; a bundle pictured elsewhere does not establish what your selected listing includes.
Questions before you choose
Does the Arte make better espresso?
The wand difference alone does not establish better espresso. Coffee, preparation and how you use the machine still matter. Choose the Arte for its milk-texturing role rather than an assumed improvement in every cup.
Does either machine grind coffee beans?
No. Use suitable ground coffee or a separate grinder if you want to start with whole beans.
Can a beginner use the Dedica Arte?
Yes, if they are willing to learn a manual routine. The My LatteArt wand makes sense when practicing milk texture is part of the plan; it does not automate steaming.
Is a milk pitcher included?
Check the exact seller’s bundle. We would not assume a pitcher, a particular tamper or the same accessory set across regional listings.
Choose the wand you will actually use
Start with your usual cup. Then decide whether milk practice belongs in the routine. The most useful Dedica is the one you will want to set up again tomorrow.
